Swedish Massage and Toxins
There are so many benefits associated with massage and bodywork. The most common form of bodywork is Swedish massage. It is also the most well-known and accepted form of massage in the general public. The main idea behind Swedish massage is to encourage increased blood flow towards the heart. This allows for more oxygenation throughout the body. We all know that oxygen is essential to feeling good! Swedish massage also helps rid the muscles of toxins and waste. These "toxins" that you hear about so often are really just chemicals in your body that build up inside your muscles. Massage helps break up the stagnant chemicals and move them through your body. The toxins are responsible for making your muscles sore. You probably hear your massage therapist encourage lots of water drinking after a massage. This helps flush these leftover "toxins" out of your body after a massage. Another way to rid your body of excess toxins/waste is commonly known as a "detox bath". There are many popular ways to perform this...the simplest being just add Epsom salt to your bath water (follow the directions on the package). This is not only relieving for your muscles but, a great way to relax at the end of a long day!
