Doula Care

I am super thrilled to have just registered for the next step in my training to become a birth doula.  The class I am taking is through Big Belly Services in Seattle.  They have some really great teachers and I am excited to get started early this next week.

A birth doula is someone who can support and educate a pregnant woman and her family.  This usually starts in the 2nd trimester and support goes through out the remainder of pregnancy, labor, and birth.  Eventually, I plan on taking the postpartum doula training which includes support at home after the birth.  This is sometimes called the 4th trimester.

I look forward to sharing with you as I go through this new experience.  I will be looking for families to do free work with while I finish my certification.  Let me know if you are interested!

Mommy & Me Group

I have a new Mommy & Me group that I am starting up in September!  Every thursday from 10 am - 10:45 am.  This is a great way for you to connect with your baby and other local moms.  I will have visiting local professionals as well as information on infant massage (which I am certified in teaching).  Let me know if there is a subject or person you would like to see highlighted during this group.  There is a suggested donation of $7 per family to cover supplies, snacks, etc.  but, don't let that stop you from joining our group.  If you have an infant or toddler this group is for you!  The september dates are thursday the 8th, 15th, 22nd, and 29th.  I hope to see you at Serene Rejuvenation every thursday in September!  Tell your friends!!!

H2O

Every system of your body depends on water to flush out toxins and carry nutrients including oxygen to cells.  In fact, about 60% of your body weight is made up of water.  Your muscles are made up of about 75% water.  In the massage industry it is suggested that you drink extra water after your treatment to replenish your body and to help carry waste from the muscle.  The industry standard is to drink half your weight in ounces daily.  So, if you weigh 150 pounds, you would drink 75 ounces of water a day.  Don't forget to take those water breaks!!!

CIMI Certification

I am sooo excited!  I just ran over to the mail box and guess what I had sitting there?  My Certified Infant Massage Instructor (CIMI) Certificate.  I was even more excited to see that I got 97.25% as my grade in the class.  I ran right inside and logged on to update my account listing on the website http://www.lovingtouch.com/.  I am now listed as an instructor instead of a student!

Anyway, thanks for letting me toot my own horn and of course, practice with you and your beautiful babies.  Keep watching the blog for more information on upcoming infant massage classes!

Swedish Massage and Toxins

There are so many benefits associated with massage and bodywork.  The most common form of bodywork is Swedish massage.  It is also the most well-known and accepted form of massage in the general public.  The main idea behind Swedish massage is to encourage increased blood flow towards the heart.  This allows for more oxygenation throughout the body. We all know that oxygen is essential to feeling good!  Swedish massage also helps rid the muscles of toxins and waste.  These "toxins" that you hear about so often are really just chemicals in your body that build up inside your muscles.  Massage helps break up the stagnant chemicals and move them through your body.  The toxins are responsible for making your muscles sore.  You probably hear your massage therapist encourage lots of water drinking after a massage.  This helps flush these leftover "toxins" out of your body after a massage.  Another way to rid your body of excess toxins/waste is commonly known as a "detox bath".  There are many popular ways to perform this...the simplest being just add Epsom salt to your bath water (follow the directions on the package).  This is not only relieving for your muscles but, a great way to relax at the end of a long day!
